How do I leave the cover page without a number?

Tick “No number on the first page”. Set “Start at” to 1 if the page after the cover should be page 1, or 2 if the cover counts.

Does it change my pages?

Only a small number is written near the edge. Text stays text and pictures keep their quality. Pages stored sideways get the number along their visible bottom edge.
