Why is the JPG so much smaller than the PNG?

PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which makes photos and screenshots big. JPG stores the picture in a way the eye can't tell apart, so the same screenshot is often 3 to 10 times smaller, easier to upload and send.

What happens to a see-through PNG (a logo or signature)?

JPG can't be see-through, so those parts become white, as on paper. Keep a logo as PNG if you need it see-through.
