What is hidden inside a photo?

A phone photo usually carries EXIF details: the exact place it was taken (GPS), the phone's make and model, and the date and time. Anyone who gets the original file can read them, and the place can lead to your home.

Does WhatsApp remove the location?

Photos sent the normal way are compressed and usually lose these details. Photos sent as a document, by email, Bluetooth or a file link keep them: clean them here first.

Will my photo lose quality?

No. For JPG and PNG only the hidden blocks are cut out; every pixel stays exactly as it was. A photo taken sideways keeps the one note that says which way is up.

Is it free? Are my photos uploaded?

Free, with no sign-up and no limit. Nothing is uploaded: the photos are read and cleaned inside your browser, on your own phone or computer.
